RICHMOND, VA – April 22, 2016 – Rebuilding Together Richmond, a nonprofit with a vision of a safe and healthy home for every person announced today that April 30, 2016 marks its 24th annual National Rebuilding Day (NRD). NRD is the organization’s nationwide call to provide safe and healthy homes for America’s low-income homeowners and families across the country. On National Rebuilding Day 2014, Rebuilding Together’s national network brought together 75,318 volunteers to repair and rebuild 8,186 homes, 230 nonprofit facilities and 77 community spaces such as parks.

This year, Rebuilding Together Richmond will complete nearly 40 projects during National Rebuilding Day 2016, bringing together 1,000 volunteers to serve low-income homeowners in the eighth and sixth district, alongside the Jefferson Davis corridor, Davee Gardens and Bellemeade area. National Rebuilding Day is embraced by community leaders and national corporate partners as a way of bringing immediate, large-scale impact to communities across America on a single day. Major financial and volunteer contributors include Altria Companies Employee Community Fund (ACECF), Capital One, Journey Christian Church, Dominion Resources, Nationwide Insurance and Lowe’s.

“Every April, Rebuilding Together celebrates National Rebuilding Day as a way to bring communities together as a call to action to meet the ever-growing need for our services,” said Mary Kay Huss, executive director of Rebuilding Together Richmond. “Our affiliate completes two thirds of the year’s projects on National Rebuilding Day alone. This demonstrates the power of community partnerships and all that we can accomplish when we come together to help our neighbors.”
