Our Rebuilding Together volunteer house captain was standing beside a homeowner on a rainy April 25th as she looked at her brand new ramp in the front of the house. She was quiet for a moment as she gazed at the completed construction. Then she squeezed the house captain’s hand and said to her husband of 50 years, “now we can stay.”
That phrase “now we can stay” eloquently sums us the mission and meaning of the work that RTR has done for the past 23 years. Over 1,000 volunteers came together on National Rebuilding Day (NRD) 2015 to complete home repairs and modifications for 36 senior and disabled homeowners in the Swansboro neighborhood of Richmond. Volunteers also provided painting and landscaping services for the Hull Street/Midlothian Civic Association, Swansboro Baptist Church and the Boys and Girls Club.
We would like to every sponsor, donor, partner and volunteer for their continued support of the work of Rebuilding Together of Richmond. We look forward to 2016 as we expand to do more home repairs throughout the year and begin our Safe at Home program that focuses on home safety and accessibility for our senior homeowner.
