From Executive Director Mary Kay Huss:

What are we up to during the slow summer season after National Rebuilding Day?

  • Well, it is not as slow as you might expect. Our big news is our plan to join forces with Rebuilding Together * Tri-Cities to expand our service area and allow low-income homeowners in the Tri-Cities area to continue to receive home repairs by bringing loyal volunteers together to service homes in need.  (Read official press release)
  • SAVE THE DATES! We have confirmed October 20, 2015 as the date for our Annual Partnership Breakfast. Our 2016 National Rebuilding Day will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2016.
  • Along with our intent to merge, we have completed a partner build project with Schnabel Engineering and Short Pump Rotary Club in our 2015-2016 target neighborhood: the communities alongside the Jefferson Davis corridor in Southside Richmond. Philip Morris USA and HandsOn Greater Richmond are partnering with us for a build project this weekend.  Contact Malcolm Jones ( for details on how your organization can adopt a house or work on a community project.  We have received over 30 applications and are enjoying getting to know the neighbors in this community.
  • We are thrilled to be able to formalize our year-round critical repair program with the assistance of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding and from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund for the first time in Rebuilding Together Richmond history.

We are grateful to the City of Richmond for their support as well as the support from all of our partners that make our mission possible. It continues to be a privilege to witness the commitment from our volunteers—especially our house captains.  And it is humbling to hear the stories of gratefulness from our homeowners.

In service,

Mary Kay Huss

Executive Director,
